Is anyone else feeling like a professional juggler lately… but with chainsaws, bowling pins, and the occasional flaming regulation?

Between the new Code of Conduct, the new clinical competencies, evolving AI guidelines (because apparently we now also need to be part-time tech ethicists), end-of-year client demand, Christmas, and managing to hit our protein goals… it’s a lot.

The Reality of Professional Growth

We are committed. We care deeply about our clients and our profession. We want to stay current, informed, and on the right side of, well… everything. But geez, it can be difficult sometimes to:

  • Keep up with changes and updates
  • Find time for additional training and self-study
  • Maintain our wellbeing and personal lives
  • Remember to complete our learning plan for the year

So What Do We Do?

Here are a few things that I have found helpful in the past and need to remind myself to pick up again:

1. Break it down into tiny pieces

Instead of “revise entire practice according to new guidelines,” try: Read the update (with protein snack). Identify 1 thing to adjust this week.

2. The Pomodoro… but make it professional

25 minutes reading the standards, 5 minutes staring into space contemplating your career choices. Repeat 3x. You’re basically a productivity guru now.

3. Share the load

Team discussions, shared learning, divide-and-conquer approaches, because let’s face it, someone else probably read the email more closely than you did.

4. Use technology wisely

AI can support practice admin, note-taking structure, templates, research summaries… (not replace our humanity, regulators, we hear you!)

5. Practice saying “Not this week.”

Boundaries aren’t just something we teach clients.

6. Keep the protein coming

Eggs, yoghurt, tofu, beans… whatever keeps your neurons firing.

We’ve Got This (Mostly)

It’s okay to feel overwhelmed. It’s okay to sigh loudly at your inbox. It’s okay to laugh about how ridiculously high the bar sometimes feels.

We’re in a profession that values growth, reflection, and care, for others, and for ourselves and even though it can feel overwhelming at times, it is important that we don’t just put our heads in the sand.

So if you’re tired… me too. If you’re catching up slowly… same. If you’re doing your best… that’s enough.

Let’s welcome the new year, and the new rules, with a mix of determination, humour, and protein-rich snacks. We’ve managed every change so far… and we’ll manage these ones too.

And if you’d like a little extra support…

Because staying on top of everything doesn’t have to be a solo mission:

The Succoris Academy: Is here for early career psychologists who want all their CPD, supervision, and support in one place — minus the overwhelm.

Succoris Partnerships: For more seasoned clinicians ready to build, grow, or gracefully exit their business with guidance, community, and strategy.

You can find both at Succoris Psychology, we’re here to help you thrive while you care for others https://succoris.com.au/
